Dattatreya is the greatest soul (Paramaatma). He affectionately grants boons to devotees. He also removes afflictions of those, who seek refuge in him. My Obeisance to him (Smartru Gaami), who attends to us, even as we think of him! May he protect us!

With all honor to the recipient if one makes a gift, although small, one obtains great merit. Because, it is the recipient’s heartfelt joy at the time of one’s making the gift that gives one merits and not the gift as such.

That thing alone which is bright looking and enduring should be given as gift and not that which has lost its usefulness. If the gift that you make is good you get good results, if bad, unfavourable ones.

Your headache cannot be seen by others. The love that you bear in your heart for your son is not visible to him. Both of these, O friend, you cannot display. But you want Paramatma (The Supreme Lord) to be shown to you? How wonderful!

As the eyes cannot see the eye-lids, the eyes say that the eye-lids do not exist. Out of anger the eye-lids cover the eyes. Then the eyes proclaim that the whole world does not exist at all. O Rationalist, do you think what the eyes say is wrong?

Begin with idol worship in the beginning
And, once in a way, go on a pilgrimate;
At the end, to keep the body and the soul clean,
It’s enough if you listen to the words of Parthasarathi,

Just as you travel from one city to another, so also you (the Soul and the Atman) travel from one body to another. Those whom you meet on the way (as relations and friends) cannot share your fortunes (or sins).

A desire for an objet is born in mind due to the evil of attachment. The mind thinks of an object and contemplates on it. It experiences either elation or dejection depending upon the success or failure in achieving the object. In either case the mind continues to cogitate on the same object. Such a mind is a pit of turbulent waters.

Desire deludes the mind and despondency dries it up. Therefore give up both of them. He who has discarded both of these can alone acquire Vairagya.
