Legend of River Sharavati

Sharavati River emanating from Ambutirha (pond of water) lake near Tirthahalli in Shavamogga district is a major water source of Karnataka. It is said that this river originated during the journey of Sri Rama in this region. Local traditions state that Sri Rama pierced the ground with an arrow for water to quench the thirst of Sita Devi. Shara means arrow. This water source connected with Shara was called as Sharavati River.

This mighty river flowws through the western Ghats’ Sahyadri range of hills and descends to a depth of nearly 1000 feet at a place called Jog near Sagara.  The water falls through four points and are popularly called as Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. Explaning the legend Sri Swamiji Signified these four falls with the aspects of Sri Rama, Sita Devi, Hanuman and Lakshmana respectively.

In continuance of the Jala Prapaata Yatra coinciding with the campaign of Shata Shloki Ramayana video on Puttu Gam channel in YouTube.com, Sri Swamiji spent two days near the one of the most spectacuclar water falls of India. The high point of this short trip was the crossing of 300,000 views of Shata Shloki Ramayana video on 21st September 2011.

The lotus bloom in slushy mud;
The lovely red rose has thorns sharp;
